Description

The Bergbaumuseum „Lautenthals Glück“ (Lautenthals Glück Mining Museum) is located in Lautenthal near Goslar. Just a few years ago, it was called the Historisches Silberbergwerk Lautenthals Glück (Lautenthals Glück Historical Silver Mine), but it is unclear what prompted the name change. In any case, it is a real show mine and even has a mine train. There is also an underground boat trip in an ore barge.

A typical visit begins at the above-ground mine station with an electric mine train ride through the Tiefen-Sachsen-Stollen tunnel. Three levels of the mine are visited, so some stair climbing is necessary. Underground, there is also an ore boat trip; in the past, ore was transported out of the mine by boat. This takes place in a historic adit. The trip is about 110 m long, and the wooden boat is similar to a historic ore barge, except for the benches. Back on the surface, you can visit the open-air area, watch a documentary in the forge hall and visit the geological exhibition. Of course, there is also a mining museum, as the name suggests. The whole tour takes about two hours.

The museum is well worth seeing, as it has some extraordinary exhibits, including unusual mining models. The shaft house with Dörrell’s Fahrkunst is located directly at the entrance to the mining museum. Next to it is the rotunda with geological exhibits.
