At the western end of the city Ürgüp, there is a neighbourhood named Esbelli, and the adjacent Kayakapı Neighborhood has similar structures. There is a hill or narrow plateau, running northwest to southeast for 800 m, with steep rocks on both sides, formed of the rather soft volcanic tufa of the area. The southern side of the hill is riddled with cave houses, some are on the northern side too, but they obviously have no sun and are thus less popular. The whole neighbourhood became quite unpopular for living, locals preferred new houses, flats, and modern amenities, and a huge number of those historic houses were transformed into all types of hotels. There are private rooms, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and even luxury hotels. Prices range from €60 to €350 per night. The number of hotels in an area with about 800 m in diameter is overwhelming, our list has 60, and is far from being complete. The only way to find a hotel here, is by using a sort of travel portal like tripadvisor or booking.com. Or if you are already there go to the tourist office.
We had actually listed three hotels in this area, until we found out about that enormous number of hotels in this city. We gave up. We will not list any more hotels here, except if they actually have a unique feature which makes it worth mentioning. However, here are the three which already have pages. They are not unique or special in any way, they were just the three we found first. We added two sites, a museum and an underground restaurant, which allow to see the caves without booking a room.
