History

Description

ถ้ำเขาช้างหาย (T̄ĥả k̄heā cĥāng h̄āy, Tham Khao Chang Hai, Lost Elephant Cave) is located inside a single karst tower in the plain east of the province capital Trang. The cave is developed as a show cave with trails, railings and electric light. The name is probably based on a local legend, but were not able to find it. But it seems the name is today the reason why the whole area is full of rock sculptures which are shaped like elephants. On some page they tell about local guides which must be hired for short guided tours, but as far as we understand it has become more professional. The tours are extended and take now an hour, there four tours on weekdays and six on weekends. There are concrete trails, railings and electric light, so this is actually a real show cave. Nevertheless visitors get a headlamp, probably its just necessary for the right cave-feeling.
