Description

Подземная мечеть Бекет-Ата (Beket Ata Underground Mosque) is named after the famous Sufi mystic. There is a staff in the central room which is believed to have been used by Beket Ata for healing. According to legend Beket Ata built four mosques in the surrounding area. The mosque has a few strategically placed skylights which allow daylight into the subterranean chamber. But there are also niches for lamps. On room is thought to be the burial place of Beket Ata.

The walls of the mosque show religious engravings which are mostly Islamic calligraphy. The underground mosque is younger than other in the area, most likely it was built in the 18th century.
