The Republic of Kazakhstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordering Russia to the north and China to the east. It also has a small coastline along the Caspian Sea, which is strictly speaking not an ocean but a huge lake, hence the landlocked. We did not list ist until 2026 because there is no relevant tourism and are no well known underground tourist sites. Lately we found a list of five underground mosques which are obviously cave churches, subterranea which are open to the public. We decided to enter the new country on showcaves.com. It’s hard to get there and hard to see those sites, we have no first-hand information at all, and the type of subterranea is quite special. Nevertheless, we guess it’s quite important to list them as they are in the process as being listed by UNESCO WHL.
