History

Description

The House of Rock is a partially collapsed lava tube. According to legend it is the result of a house-building competition between Falealupo’s men and women. The women won the contest and the place became a symbol of self-confidence for Samoan women to this day. You can visit the site self guided, but a local guide has this and other stories to tell.

The cave was used as a shelter during cyclones. It is located at Falealupo road opposite the footprint of Moso. Moso is a famous legendary giant. According to legend he left this oddly shaped crack in the lava when he stepped over from Fiji
