Waikato is a region of the upper North Island of New Zealand. It is located south of Auckland, and is more or less the Waikato River catchment area. The area has numerous karst areas, the most famous is the Waitomo area. Beneath the caves and show caves, there are also some gold mines, and the most famous underground housing of the world, the town Hobbiton from the Lord of the Ring movies.
