Description

The Fyllingsdalstunnelen is simply named after the town where it is located, Fyllingsdalen. It is currently [2026] the longest pedestrian tunnel in the world with a length of 2.9 km. In other words if you walk through with moderate speed, it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to cross. Probably a good idea to use a bike, although it is called a "pedestrian" tunnel there are actually three lanes, one for pedestrians and two lanes for bikes for both directions. That’s obviously the reason why it is sometimes also called Sykkeltunnel (cycle tunnel). And if you need a rest, there is a hall with artworks and benches halfway. The tunnel is colour coded like a rainbow, so you see the progress by the changing colour. Alternatively you may use the tram line 2, which is called Bybanen in Bergen. It has a separate tunnel which runs parallel, and a tram station at each end of the tunnel. The two tunnels connect Fyllingsdalen with the main city of Bergen across a mountain, the Lovstakken (477 m asl).

There are actually no open hours for the tunnel, which is freely accessible, but they officially state that it is open only during the time of operation of the tram. That’s probably a security issue, as most likely neither video surveillance nor light may be operating at this time. Nevertheless, as far as we know there are no gates so it is actually possible to use the tunnel.
