History

13-AUG-2008 inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Description

The cave is located close to the sea, with a nice view from the cave portal. It contains numerous pictures of various animal, including the rare pictures of a fish and a mammoth. The paintings are mostly of Magdalenian age, between 18,000 and 13,00 years old.

There are also numerous abstract paintings and geometric forms. Common are dots, parallel lines, and exceptional parallel lines with triangular flags which look like runes. The paintings are either painted or printed using primarily red colours.
