长生洞 (Changsheng Dong, Longevity Cave) is one of two caves with this name the other one is located in Hubei. To keep them apart, this cave is generally called 罗城长生洞 (Luó chéng chángshēng dòng, Luocheng Longevity Cave). If the location is clear by the context, it is often omitted. According to legend, the Changsheng Cave was a palace built by the longevity star of Antarctica in the human world five thousand years ago, hence the name. Another legend say that it was named because of the Giant Sarcophagus. This is a stalagmite which collapsed and was covered by more sinter. Now it looks like one of those stone Egyptian sarcophaguses with a rounded lids, and so the people connected the formation with longevity. It is said that if you touch the stone coffin cover once, you will be free from troubles and disasters, if you touch it twice, you will be promoted and get rich, if you touch it three times, talents will emerge from generation to generation. And there is a third legend how the cave was named, as visiting Changsheng Cave will make you live as long as the old man in Nanshan Mountain. Not those sophisticated 3,000 years old legends which are so common in China, but its typical cave guide lore.
Nevertheless, it seems so remote in a rural and hilly area and its fame started only in 2020, when the Luocheng Cotton Tiankeng became famous on the internet. The site was developed as a scenic area since 2018, and it was declared an AAAA tourist site in 2021. So there is now a real bunch of modern chinese "attractions". There is now a Glass Plank Road, Monorail, Rainbow Slide, Magic Carpet Ladder, Cliff Train and more.
The cave entrance is reached up a long and ver wide stone staircase. It has a huge entrance portal and a bronze statue of a phoenix in the small square in front of the cave entrance. The phoenix named "Danfeng Chaoyang" is spreading its wings and about to fly. The phoenix is the totem of the Mulao people and several places are named after it. On rainy days and in the morning, fog appears around the stalagmites in the entrance hall. The cave portal and the daylight part of the cave has some massive stalagmites, which are
