History

Description

Kilsby Sinkhole is what is often called a cenote. A collapse doline in a plain, with vertical walls and a waterfilled floor. In karst areas without surface water, people settled at such waterholes, like the Kilsby family did. This is a working sheep farm, and the sinkhole was used as a watering hole for the farm and for farmers on the local stock route. They have a distillery producing Sinkhole Gin, and they offer accommodation. However, as this is a working farm, there are organizational and security restrictions, and there is no such thing as open hours. If you want to visit, it is absolutely mandatory to book ahead on their website. This applies to all activities around the sinkhole as well as accommodation, which is also offered on booking.com.

The most basic visit to the site is the Sinkhole Tour.
