History

1947 Weeki Wachee Springs State Park created.

Description

Weeki Wachee is the name of a karst spring. Named by the Seminole Indians it means little spring or winding river in their language. This is the resurgence of a water-filled river cave. The average yield is 440,000 m³/d which causes a current of 2.2 m/s three to five meters below the surface of the spring.

This spring is a classical water park offering Kayak and paddleboard rentals, Mermaid Shows, a diner named Snack Shack, and a restaurant named Captain’s Quarters. On the weekends the site is quite crowded by day trippers, so we recommend a visit on weekdays.
