1896 | explored by Truman Powell. |
1912 | Powell family opened the cave to the public. |
The main chamber of Talking Rocks Cavern is more than 30 m high and 180m long, a winding passage filled with numerous speleothems. One extraordinary 30 m high pillar is called Powells Column after the explorer of the cave Truman Powell. He tried to mine marble at the cave, but instead he mined the guano. A few years later, the Powell family opened the cave, which was called Fairy Cave at this time, to the public.
