History

1850 gold found in the area.
1887 mine opened.
~1900 mine closed.
World War I mine reopened.
World War II mine reopened.
1948 government stopped its wartime mine subsidization program, mine finally closed.
1991 opened as a show mine by Doug and David Tomlinson.
DEC-2006 new owners Paul and Cindy Hintgen.

Geology

At first this mine was famous for its impressive gold and silver production. In the 20th century it became known for the production of high grade lead and zinc. The mine is estimated to contain still an amount of gold worth some USD 25 million. Unfortunately the mining is difficult and not profitable at the moment.

Description

The Country Boy Mine tries to show the daily life of a gold miner in 1880. This was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Breckenridge. Helmets and raincoats are provided. The mine is cool, wear warm clothes and sturdy walking shoes.

The family owned business also offers gold panning, dinners, and sleigh rides in winter.
