AJ Mine Gastineau Mill Tour includes an underground tour through a gold mine tunnel of AJ Mine and the world's largest gold-producing mill named Gastineau Mill. The Alaska Gastineau Mill was a revolutionary plant that introduced new technologies to the mining industry. The John Peterson 3 Stamp Mill is in working condition, and you can see and hear it in operation during the tour. The gold bearing ore was transported through a 120 m long tunnel to the mill. The tunnel has an exhibition of mining equipment, which is used to explain the different mining methods. The tour is self-guided, but inside the tunnel experienced miners demonstrate the various machines. On site is also the first steam engine brought to Alaska.
