Description

อุโมงค์ปิยะมิตร (Xumongkh̒ piya mitr, Piyamit Tunnel) is a bunker of the Malysian Communists during the 1970s. It was once the base of Malaya Communist Division 2. With a length of a kilometer and nine entrances, it was built in only three months. It was used as a shelter from bombs and to store food supplies. Today it located in a park and is reached after a 15 minutes walk uphill through the park. The tours are guided and there is a museum explaining the history of the tunnel. Other sites are a Buddhist temple and a thousand years old tree. There are numerous battlefield bases in the mountain tops along the Thailand/Malaysian border.
