Description

วัดถ้ำพระ (Wạd t̄ĥả phra, Wat Tham Phra, Buddha Cave Temple) is a buddhist cave temple, one of dozens in Thailand. Nevertheless, it is worth the visit, the cave is quite nice, there is a view on the river and a Buddha statue at the river, which is quite famous. Also, the nearby Opium Museum is quite informative.

The cave temple is located in a karst tower at the Mae Nam Kok river, on the southwestern tip. The southeastern side is formed by the river. On the northern side, right in the middle is another cave named Tham Wai Cave which is also worth a visit, if you are already in the area. It is smaller and has only a single Buddha inside, but it has spectacular solutional forms at the walls and ceiling and nice speleothems too. There is no light though, and while actually equipped with a sign and trails, probably it was a sort of show cave some decades ago, it is in a state of disrepair. Bring a headlamp and wear walking shoes.
