Description

Štefanova Vinska Klet (Štefan’s Wine Cellar) is a historic wine cellar located under Hotel Štrk. Its domed vaults accommodate about 50 people and are used for wine tastings. The winery and the cellars are 170 years old. The produced Prekmurje are sold under the name Diši po Prekmurju (Smells like Prekmurje).

Because of the alcoholic nature of a wine tasting we recommend to eat first at the Gostilna Lovenjak and stay afterwards at the Hotel Štrk. The restaurant is only a few years younger than the building, and for 70 years it is famous for the huge stork’s nest on the restaurant chimney, hence the name of the hotel. In the mid 20th century the landlord was Franc Lovenjak, and the restaurant is named after him. His daughter took over the management of the inn in 1979, but after she retired in 2003 the house was closed. Since 2005 is is operated by the Pavlinjek family who modernized the restaurant and hotel and opened the cellars. They also opened a distillery called Žganjarna St. Stefan (St. Stefan distillery), where they produce spirits with a touch of Prekmurje.
