History

Description

Голубое озеро (Blue Lake) is a small karst spring located at the rim of the Gypsum karst. By the local Bashkirs it is called Зянгяр куль (Zyangar Kul) which also translates Blue Lake. The name is derived from the typically blue colour, caused by the high content in gypsum and limestone. The refraction of the light in the water is one reason for the colour, the other is the blue clay at the bottom of the lake. The blue clay is known for its healing properties, it is said to contain many trace elements necessary for the human body. The strong karst spring produces up to 300m³/s and creates a strong stream which flows into the nearby Uzen River after only 100 m. The spring has the status of a hydrological natural monument of republican significance.

The spring is surrounded by limestone cliffs which contain small caves. The karst cave below the spring is blocked by debris and not accessible.
