History

Description

Коркинский разрез (Korkinsk Coal Mine) is a huge open cast coal mine, which is said to be one of the biggest man made holes. It has a depth of 600 m and a diameter of about three kilometers. This makes it the deepest and largest open cast coal mine in Europe and the second largest in the world.

We could not find any info on visits to this mine, but as far as we understood there is a wooden staircase for visitors. Actually this visit is rather strenuous, as the staircase is almost 1.5 km long and goes down 600 m. We heard it is possible to ask the truck drivers to take some visitors on a ride down into the mine. Actually the number of visitors seems to be so low, they are often welcome for some entertainment during the boring spiral descents.
