History

Description

Таорска врела (Taor Springs) which is also called The waterfalls of Taorski vreli is located at the foot of the mountain Povlen. Quite typical for karst springs, the limestone rich water forms deposits of tufa around the spring, thus creating waterfalls and rimstone pools. The main spring is the entrance of a water-filled cave and flows the whole year. It is surrounded by numerous intermittent springs, which are reactivated during times of high yield, after snow melt in spring or after exceptionally heavy rains.

The valley immediately below the spring is rather steep, and so the water was once used by 11 water mills. Only one still exists, the uppermost right below the spring. But the wooden hut is in a bad shape and at the brink of collapsing.
