History

Description

The Cheile Oltețului (Olteț Gorge) separates the Parâng Massif from the Căpățânii Mountains. It is only 75 cm wide at its narrowest point, nevertheless a road was built through the gorge. As a result it is quite simple to walk along the gorge. The road is a single lane gravel road leading to some remote hamlets in the north, and finally ends at the Curmătura Olteţului, the high pastures. Its definitely worth the time to walk half an hour along the gorge after visiting Peştera Polovragi at the entrance to the gorge.
