The Praia de Benagil (beach of Benagil) is a beautiful beach near the town Benagil. The most impressive thing at this beach are several huge sea caves, which were created by the work of the waves. The openings of those caves are towards the sea, so they can only be reached by boat. Numerous local fishermen offer boat trips to the caves. The coast around Benagil, from Alfanzina in the west to Porche in the east, is a mix rugged limestone cliffs, hidden coves, natural bridges and sea caves. An impressive sea cave is Algar de Albandeira.
The most impressive of the sea caves is Algar de Benagil (Benagil Cave). It is mostly a huge bell shaped room, with two entrances to the sea and a huge circular hole in the middle of the ceiling. Obviously the ceiling has collapsed after the cave became bigger and bigger and the ceiling became thinner.
