Description

Castel Mimi (Mimi Castle) is a castle replica, built from 1893 by the last governor of Basarabia region Constantin Mimi and named after him. The design is inspired by French classicism and historicism, so it looks actually like a French castle, but it is just a younger replica. He also introduced wine-making by bringing the first vine variety of Aligote to Moldova and making it accessible throughout the country. It was a winery from the beginning, as its original owner introduced wine making to the country. Recently the castle underwent major renovations and was closed for years. Now it is reopened, and offers a wine tasting tour to the wine cellars below the castle. Actually there are half a dozen different tours, from the family friendly without wine tasting to the food based where participants get a full meal. Normal tours offer a snack and five different wines. The tour through the cellars of the castle are part of all tours.

The complex has not only the castle itself, there are numerous other buildings. Most of the buildings are part of the modern winery. But there are also a museum, an art gallery for young artists, a conference hall, a hotel, a spa, a restaurant, some exhibitions of folk art and culinary arts. The manor has four large hall for up to 120 people for all kinds of festivities. The site is used for private functions as well as for official events.
