History

Description

Vzintga Gorge is formed by the River Vzintga, which forms a series of lakes and waterfalls between narrow cliffs faces. It is not possibile to enter the gorge at this place, but there is a marked trail along the rim of the gorge which offers outstanding views. Until some years ago a spectaular cable-car across the gorge existed. The cable car no longer operates, but you can still see the engine-house and pylons. There is a memorial plaque dedicated to the last 20 passengers.

The gorge crosses the Postenwalj Ranges, the highest part of the Movanîan Alps and also the location of the highest peaks in Europe. There are numerous trails across the mountains which offer true discoveries for the fearless mountaineer.
