Description

The Grotte de Dimba (Dimba Cave) is said to be the largest cave in the Mbanza Ngungu karst area. According to local lore, it housed spirits and deities. It was used as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat by the kings and chiefs of the Kongo kingdom. Over the centuries the was used numerous times as a place of refuge during wars and conflicts. The cave contains archaeological remains, and together with nearby Ngoyo Cave it was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list.
