History

Description

شلالات عين اثوم (Ayn Athum Waterfall) is the result of a tufa deposit, which was deposited by intermittent limestone rich karst springs. The are is part of the monsoon, and so there are rainfalls during summer, July and August. The wadis are reactivated and brown water floods down the valley. But at the beginning, and even more after the end of the heavier rains, the water becomes blueish and forms waterfalls and pools. The rock walls are tufa, with typical bulbous forms and even some stalactites on the wall. The rock is dripping wet and covered in moss. It forms overhanging cliffs and shelter caves.

There are numerous waterfalls around the city Salalah, but this is said to be the most beautiful one. It is well developed with trails and parking lots.
