History

Description

The Cenote Jardin del Eden (Garden of Eden Cenote) is actually a series of lakes. It is also known as Cenote Ponderosa or Eden Cenote. This is a cenote of the shallow or open type, there is no shaft, no doline, no collapsed cave chamber. The rocks along the edge nevertheless show remains of the former cave, with some erosional forms and some speleothems. Partly there is two or three meter high limestone wall along the edge, then ther are slopes with staircases down to the water. The lakes are used for swimming snorkeling and even diving. There are wooden jetties as well as underwater limestone blocks which are used for resting.

Like most cenotes in this area, it is reached from the highway 307 Tulum-Cancún. Between the turnoffs to Cenote Búho and Cenote Azul, there is a gate with the colourful name of Cenote Jardin del Eden. A 900-m long private single-lane gravel road leads to the cenote. There is a car park at the end of the road, but you have to stop at the ticket office and pay the entrance fee before parking.
