Description

The Crvena Stijena Archaeological Site is a huge cavern with a 24 m wide and 25 m high portal at 700 m asl. The single chamber is 15 m deep, so while it is actually closed to the public, it is easy to see the whole cave from the entrance. The site was first excavated between 1954 and 1964 and revealed 31 cultural layers. The sediments were between 20 m and 30 m thick, which makes it one of the richest archaeological sites in Europe.
