The Geolandschaft Wanterbaach-Siweschlëff (Geolandscape "Wanterbaach-Siweschlëff") is located near Berdorf. The thick Luxembourg sandstone layer on clayey marls is subject to erosion, mostly along cracks in the rock. The result are sandstone blocks separated by narrow gorges, mostly straight and deep, and sandstone towers. Some sandstone towers at the edge of the plateau have slipped or tilted on the clayey marl layer. In Lëtzebuergesch, the German dialect of Luxembourg, the name Schlëff means Schlucht or gorge, Siwe is Sieben or seven. Siweschlëff means seven gorges, in French the place is called Sept Gorges. The narrow and gloomy crevices up to 30 cm wide and up to 20 m deep. Inside the narrow gorges a cool-humid microclimate formed, with mosses and ferns, for which the region is known. The area around and through the seven gorges in sandstone is full of walking trails and benches, mostly in a shady forest. and a very popular weekend destination.
