History

Description

縄文鍾乳洞 (Jomon Shonyudo) is a karst cave, with nice speleothems and interesting excavations of prehistoric man in the entrance area. Jomon is the name of the time in Japanese pre-history between 10,000 BC and 300 BC, so the name refers to the archaeological findings. The cave is visited on self guided tours, but as there are no electric lights, the visitors cary electric torches which are provided. We recommend bringing a good lamp. The cave is a river cave and shows interesting erosional forms.
