Description

岩屋鍾乳洞 (Iwaya shōnyūdō) is also known as 岩屋第一鍾乳洞 (Iwaya dai ichi shōnyūdō, Iwaya No 1 Limestone Cave). We are not aware for which reason the cave got the number one, it is not that exceptional actually, but probably it's simply because there is a second cave of the same name. The cave is located near the grounds of a shinto shrine, but does not belong to the shrine. It is open without restrictions, if you visit turn on the electric light yourself. Don't forget to turn it off afterwards. The cave has walking trails, but more like outdoor walking trails, not the comfortably paved type. We recommend good walking shoes and a torch, just in case.
