History

Description

This site has numerous names, most common are Bunker Tour Cervia or simply Bunker Tour. But it is also known as Bunker Tour 360. This is actually a German bunker, of the type Regelbau 360, hence the name. Germany had a sort of catalogue of bunkers in all sizes which were standardized. The plans were used to build bunkers along the German border (Westwall), at the North Sea and Channel coast (Atlantikwall), in Poland (Ostwall), and also as a help for the allied Italian fschist dictator Mussolini in Italy. The bunker at the beach in Cervia was built in 1943, to counter a possible landing of the Allies, the so-called Gothic line. This bunker was abandoned for many decades, in 2018 it was still overgrown and invisible. It seems the local businesses like hotels and beach cafés were not really happy to offer a view on military installments, they preferred dense vegetation. A few years ago the bunkers were rediscovered, restored and opened to the public. There are now tours which will first show the inside of the bunker, and then continue with a pleasant walk that will wind through the tree-lined avenues of the town to discover one by one the 8 German bunkers still visible today.

The site is a sort of bunker museum. It was renovated and is maintained by the Assoziatione Centro Richerche Belliche 360°, often shortened to CRB360°. This non-profit association was founded in June 2020 by locals interested to research the German bunkers of the 2nd World War. It is not restricted to Cervia, it actually operates all over Emilia-Romagna and Marche. Their goal is to preserve the historical memory of the events of the last world war. For this they recover and disseminate knowledge and information on the historical period of the Second World War through research, protection, restoration, and activities.
