Description

The Grua va Hardömbl or Miniera dell'Erdemolo is located Fersental or Val del Fersina, where people speak Mochena, hence the strange name. The area around Palù was mined since prehistoric times. The mining activities reached their peak was the 16th century. Grua va Hardömb was operated between 1400 and 1600. The miners were called canopi or Knòppn, obviously the German Knappe, and like the owners they were German. The taxes were equally shared by the Bishops of Trento and the Counts of Tyrol.

This abandoned mine was refurbished by the Istituto Culturale Mòcheno (Bersntoler Kulturinstitut). Visitors are equipped with helmets and raincoats, appropriate clothes and walking shoes are also recommended. The main has numerous wooden staircases and the floor is sometimes rough and the ceiling low. You should start your visit to the mine with a visit of the S Pèrgmandlhaus - Museo Mineralogico in Palù.
