The Sardinian name Su Stampu 'e su Tùrrunu sounds really weird, it’s even weird for Italians who simplified it to Su Stampu de su Turrunu. The site is alo a little weird and definitely impressive. It’s a combination of a waterfall and a cave, a waterfall inside a small cave. The cave is mostly a result of the erosion by the waterfall, which has a huge plunge pool and the associated waterfall cave behind. But the upper part of the waterfall flows through a cave too, the water vanishes in its bed into a ponor, falls down a vertical shaft and reappears in the ceiling of the waterfall caves. This is extremely rare, not unique but really rare. We have listed only one similar place in the U.S.A.
The site is easy to visit and in a way it is developed with trails leading there. The best starting point is at the show cave Is Janas, from here it’s an 800 m walk downhill into the valley below. There is a good trail and it is signposted. The area is a conservation area named Foresta di Addolì, there are numerous trails which offer great views on forested hills.
