History

Description

Rangko Cave is named after the nearby village, which is reached from Labuan Bajo after a short drive. After a walk through the village a traditional wooden boat is entered and 20 minute cruise brings you to Rangko Cave. It is located on the western coast of the peninsula in the north, closed to the sea. The cave is famous for a turquoise cave lake which contains salt water, due to an underground connection with the sea. The pool is used for bathing, access is rather simple with an earth trail and concrete steps at the steeper parts. There is no artificial light, the huge cavern is illuminated by sunlight, in the afternoon it may enter deep into the cave and intensify the blue light of the lake.

Most tourists visit the region without renting a car or moped. There are numerous half and full day tours which include pick up and drop off at the hotel and include the cave tour.
