History

Description

Berberov Buk is a waterfall in the Zrmanjy river, but it is not a normal waterfall, where the water has created a ledge by eroding softer rocks. Here the ledge is formed by tufa, limestone precipitated from the limestone rich karst water. This is a growing rock, tufa, which forms rimstone pools, and here is a place where a short series of such pools create a spectacular rim across the river. There are even small caves, primary tufa caves, in the rimstone.

The site is also known as Vodopad Zrmanja (Zrmanja Waterfalls) or actually Waterfalls of Zrmanja River. But actually this name is confusing, as Zrmanja River has numerous such rims with waterfalls in this area, and this is only the most spectacular one, and the one with tourist infrastructure. There are several parking lots, restaurants, cafés, bungalows, beaches, and a 1 km long trail along the waterfalls. This small hamlet is named Muškovci. The site is located in Park prirode Velebit (Nature Park Velebit).
