Description

Σπηλιά Ολίμπι (Olympi Cave) is located at the southern tip of the island. It is named after the medieval village Olympi. The small cave has impressive speleothems. The cafe and gift shop at the entrance offer an amazing view of the Aegean Sea.

Olympoi Cave has a main chamber which extends into a passage. Around the main chamber are openings, which in some places form other smaller chambers. In the middle of the chambe is karst fenster, a natural entrance where the sun rays enter as a result of a collapse of the ceiling. The natural colours of the speleothems are red, yellow and white. Some samples were dated and the oldest is 230,000 years old.
