History

Description

The Cave of Saint Antony was used as an important centre of worship from the Late Minoan up until the Roman period. An inscription was found in the cave, which testifies that Hermes Kraneos was worshipped here. A small church inside the cave is dedicated to Aghios Antonios (Saint Antony), the patron of the children. This church gave the cave its name.
