History

1961 Cave des Producteurs de Montlouis founded.

Description

The Cave des Producteurs de Montlouis is a cooperative of 25 wine growers which was formed in 1961. The members grow wine on an area of 115 hectares of vineyards and the wine is produced in a cellar they share. Together they are big enough to employ a winemaker, they sell one third of all wines of Montlouis and the cellar contains about two million bottles.

It is possible to visit the cellars, which are located inside a former underground tufa quarry. The rock was once mined for the castles and building along the Loire. Today there are two million bottles of wine which are matured in the ideal climate of the cave. The tour also includes a wine tasting. Both tour and tasting are complimentary, of course there is the possibility to buy wine afterwards.
