History

Description

The Oriu di i Canni (Cave House of Canni) is a cave house built into one of the thousands of erosional hollows which can be found all over Corsica. It is named after the smll village Canni where it is located. The locals are very proud of the cave house, and they use it widely on brochures and on Google Maps. It's located above the houses, east of the village, it's a 100 m uphill walk on a marked trail from the last houses. The special thing with this cave house is that it is inside a pointed rock of a pretty unique form. It actually looks similar to a trulli in south Italy, or the cap of a dwarf.

The cave has one thick wall in the portal, which has a door in the center and a small window above. The wall was renovated some years ago and looks pretty good. However, the wooden door is missing, so the cave is freely accessible. Inside are other remains, like a wall which separates it into two parts, and some small walls at the rear. They are less well-preserved as the main facade.
