Geopark Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus

Covering almost 4,000 square kilometres, the Geopark is quite large and encompasses a central part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. This area is famous for its mining, which has been documented here for as long as 2,500 years. Lahn marble and iron ore from the Devonian period were mined in the Lahn-Dill region, whilst basalt and clay from the Tertiary period were extracted in the Westerwald.
