The Ústecký kraj is located at the northern border to Germany and has a long history with Germany. The German name is Aussiger Region and the capital is Ústí nad Labem (Aussig). It is one half of the Severní Čechy (Nordböhmen, Northern Bohemia) industrial area. This is a result of the long mining history since the Middle Ages. The northern part of the area is a part of the Krušné hory (Erzgebirge, Ore Mountains) which is known for polymetallic ore mining. As a result the underground tourist sites of the area are show mines in the Krušné hory.
