北京焦庄户地道战遗址博物馆 (Beijing Jiaozhuanghu Memorial Hall of Tunnel Warfare Site) aka 焦庄户地道战遗址纪念馆 (Jiāo zhuānghù dìdào zhàn yízhǐ jìniànguǎn, Jiaozhuanghu Tunnel Warfare Site Memorial Museum) is the rather bombastic name of a military underground structure. The site was created and used during the Chinese Civil War, as a shelter for guerilla warfare. Today there is a building on top with a museum, there are three exhibitions on 1000 m², 冀东抗战燃烽火 (Jidong Anti-Japanese War Flames), 人民战争建奇功 (People’s War Building of Great Merits), and 今日顺义更美好 (Today’s Shunyi Is Better). Below the building are the underground structures which include lounges and command posts and war facilities such as individual shelters, traps, grinding bases and temple terrace shooting holes. There are militia watchtowers and secluded entrances and exits. They were located in quite unsuspicious places like water tanks, the flue of a kang, stoves, pigsties, woodsheds and donkey troughs.
