孽龙洞 (Nielong Dong, Evil Dragon Cave) is also known as 义龙洞 (Yilong Dong, Righteous Dragon Cave). Thats quite the opposite, and rather strange. The cave is quite famous amongthe locals for its underground art gallery. As typical for Chinese caves the poetic interpretation of the formations is much more important than any scientific or aesthetic value. The name is such a poetic interpretation of formations resembling dragons, a fact which completely escapes western eyes.
The four kilometer long cave is a river cave with a perennial cave river. The spectacular Dongtian Waterfall falls from a 9 m high cliff into the 碧潭 (bitan, green lake). The lake with its crystal clear water is full of strange calcite concretions and stalagmites. Some are called stone flowers.
