Description

Located at 龙宫洞旅游风景区 (Longgong Cave Tourist Scenic Area) is the homonymous cave. It is called 龙宫洞 (Longgong Dong, Dragon Palace Cave) or sometimes White Dragon Palace.

Dragon Palace Cave is exceptional for a chamber with a lotus pond with stone lotuses blooming in the lake. This a are rare formations of calcite crystals which were growing like lotus flowers. The next chamber called West Palace has impressive stalagmites, one is called Sea God Needle and is quite famous. It has reached the ceiling, so it is actually a pillar, and at its foot is a wide stalagmite looking like a stone tortoise. The next chamber called Drum Music Hall is famous for the different sound the stalagmites make. It was obviously used to make music by softly hitting the speleothems. Unfortunately this custom is quite destructive for the speleothems so we hope it has been discontinued. The final chamber is the biggest chamber of the cave, almost 1,000 m from the entrance. It is 80 m long, 60 m wide and over 50 m high. A huge group of stalagmite is called the throne of the Dragon Emperor. This is the luxuriant Dragon Palace after which the cave was named.
