锦州观音洞 (Jinzhou Guanyin Dong) is a karst cave with stalactites and stalagmites. Quite interesting are rimstone pools with bulbous calcite and cave corals. The cave is rather long, about 1.5 km. It is entered through an artificial tunnel and the exit is a long staircase.
The cave is located in the west of Jinzhou city, the city is located in the plains and the cave in the hills to the west near Mountain Baotun. Beiputuo Mountain is a huge temple, the cave entrance is part of the temple. There are two caves called East Cave and West Cave, between the two caves is a Guanyin pavilion. Guanyin caves are generally buddhist cave temples which have a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
The prince of the Liao Kingdom, Yelvbei, had to flee from enemies. Here he met Guyanin Bodhisattva, who saved his life. This is the reason why a temple was erected at this place.
There is another cave in the scenic area named 桃花洞 (Taohuadong, Peach Blossom Cave), again a rather popular name. As far as we understand, it is possible to visit the cave, but it is not developed as a show cave. You should also visit Feilai spring, a small karst spring. The whole area is well developed, there is eaven a cable way to an outlook. On the other hand, it might be crowded during high season. And if you plan to go there, do not trust the locations published on websites, because each is different and none seems to be correct. The one we provide is the best we could manage, but was not tested.
