Vai Akaruru is one of the few water-filled caves on the island. It is not really a river cave, though it drains from the inside of the island through the makatea to the sea. Actually it's more like a cenote, the water is calm and cool, and a popular refreshment. There are also rumours that the water is 50 m deep and a popular diving spot. However, diving is only possible with a permission which requires cave diving experience.
