History

Description

The Gruta da Ressurreição (Cave of the Resurrection) is quite spectacular, but actually it is not a cave church. It is a quite spectacular stone forest with a vertical cliff face and a small shelter at the foot of the cliff. This cave was used to build the altar inside, which the church is actually roofless, a series of concrete benches. Nevertheless, the geological uniqueness makes this site quite impressive. The churchgoers, however, aren’t too keen on it because you’re left completely exposed to both the sun and the rain.
