Smith's Parish

Smith's Parish was named for English aristocrat Sir Thomas Smith or Smythe (*1558–✝1625). He was one of the nine chief investors of the Somers Isles Company. He was the Company's first governor, governor for the East India Company and treasurer of the Virginia Company. Located in the northeast of the main island, at the southern end of Harrington Sound, it is composed of aeolian limestone and karstified. It has one lake, Spittal Pond, which is connected to the sea through caves and thus brackish.
